1,000 Comfort Foods!

We all know we have to eat to live, many of us live to eat; there are countless articles on what we should and should not eat.  There is this diet and that diet and in the end most of us end up frustrated because are we giving ourselves what we really desire from food?  Whether in the guise of nutrition, fun or get-togethers what we all want from food is comfort, something that provides a feeling of well-being and whilst the New Oxford American Dictionary describes “comfort food as …typically..with high sugar and other carbohydrate content” which it can be, though not exclusively, it goes on to say exactly what we crave ~ “associated with childhood or home cooking.”  For Carmelo and I there lies diversity since he grew up in Sicily and I in England; so take each nationality, add the flavour of the many regions and you have infinite “comfort foods.”

Number 1 ~ Ferrero Rocher: “a whole hazelnut, coated in milk chocolate, surrounded by ‘Nutella’ filling, and encased in a nut croquante made by Italian chocolatier Ferrero SpA.”  Why chocolate?  Today is Sunday, and I am transported back to my parents living room noshing on chocolate with a cup of tea.  Next time you bite into a Ferrero Rocher you know you’re going to love it so linger in the process; savour the shape, the aroma and as you bite feel the crisp snap of the casing and the sumptuousness of the filling, maybe with the first bite you’ll get a little of the hazelnut so as you chew allow the sensation of the textures and flavours to fulfill all your senses.  Add a cup of tea, perhaps PG tips, a blend of Assam, Ceylon and Kenyan Teas, and aaah ~ comfort!
